Blunderbuss
This flintlock blunderbuss features a spring-bayonet operated by a catch on the side. The barrel is made of brass for use in adverse weather conditions.
The maker Philip Bond was a viewer for the Hudson Bay Company. His business was located on Cornhill in the City of London. He had this weapon proofed (test-fired with an overweight charge) at the Tower of London for a private client. The Tower offered this private service to many corporate and military contractors, despite opposition from the London Gunmakers' Company which wished to maintain a monopoly on proofing. All weapons had to be proofed to ensure their safety.
