Gun, percussion sporting gun
This sporting gun was manufactured by Thomas Mortimer, a member of the famous Mortimer gunmaking dynasty. Thomas had a fashionable gunmaking business in St James's Street near St James's Palace. He became Gunmaker-in-Ordinary to George IV in 1822. Fashionable West End gunmakers enjoyed an exclusive aristocratic clientele who bought their guns to shoot fowl.
