This bill of sale is from the firm of Holtzapffel. Alsatian immigrant John Jacob Holtzapffel started his lathe and tool making business in London in 1794. The firm made machinery and tools for several Alsatian and Swiss migrants involved in instrument making and gun making. They also supplied English customers and manufactured lathes for ornamental work, a hobby for some wealthy gentlemen. oltzapffel & Co. was in business until 1928.
