Tuning peg
Tuning peg formed from longitudinal slice through a bovine or horse long bone. Shaved into a tuning peg with a circular sectioned shank, expanding at one end to form a spatulate grip. At the opposite end the shank tapers slightly and has a transverse slot through which the string was passed. The function of the string has resulted in lateral grooving on either side of the slot.
