The North West Prospect of the Danes Church in Wellclose Square.
The Danish Church in Wellclose Square in Wapping was built in 1696 at the expense of King Christian V of Denmark to serve the Danish seafaring community in London. It was designed by the sculptor Caius Gabriel Cibber, himself a Dane. The church was built near to the docks where Scandinavian ships arrived bringing timber to London.
