Samuel Horsey, aged 55
Samuel Horsey was a labourer who lost both legs. Described as 'Aged 55, A Singular Beggar on the Streets of London', he managed to move around with the aid of two crutches. The book the 'Cries of London' tells us that he 'was well-known in Holborn, Fleet Street and the Strand. In 1816 this man had been a London beggar for thirty-one years. He had a most Herculean trunk, and his weather-beaten ruddy face was the picture of health'.
