Gelatin silver print, part of the Henry Grant photographs collection. From a group of images of East Ham Academy of Music, 12/1964. The image shows a concert at the Festival Hall with an orchestra and a choir performing on stage. The typed caption attached on the reverse reads '(Nov. 1 1965) Going to Town. The grand finale of the concert at the Festival Hall given by the amateur music-makers -- with a sprinkling of the professionals who teach them -- of East Ham. Encouragement of music has brought renown to this East End of London district, now incorporated into the new borough of Newham where Rudolf Sabor (here seen conducting) and his growing team of music teachers are doing a firstclass job. The concert was given under the title "Newham Goes To Town."'
