Osteological Database
The Archaeological Archive holds records about human remains excavated from archaeological sites across London.
Here you can find summaries of cemetery sites excavated across London and download osteological data about the human remains curated by London Museum.
Photographs of human remains are available for some sites, and several sites have additional paper-based records about individual human remains.
Our Bioarchaeology at London Museum page provides information on how to download, use and cite the cemetery summaries and data downloads.
The museum can only provide data for cemetery sites and remains that have been deposited with the Archaeological Archive or are in its care. London Museum will be adding more sites from different periods in the future. Please note that the Archaeological Archive and Curator of Osteology will not provide data on request.
Due to critical collections work, including the complete reorganisation of the museum’s storage, research access is currently closed to all collections at London Museum Spaces and London Museum Stores, including the Archaeological Archive.
This essential work is being undertaken as part of the move to our new museum in Smithfield, where we will showcase more of the London Collection than ever before.
