Portobello Road Market
The similarities between the dresses on this stall in Portobello Road Market and that being worn by the young girl is immediately notable both to the audience and undoubtedly to the photographer, whose quick reactions on the camera are evident in the resulting street photograph. Having studied photography at the Guildhall School of Arts, Bevington spent a lot of time in the 1950s photographing Portobello Road, and later these images formed part of an exhibition for Kensington and Chelsea Community History Group. Bevington became a founder member of the Wandsworth Photo Co-op, who in 1991 became Photofusion, based in Brixton.
