Mariano Bovi. Engraver, Publisher and Art Dealer. Native of Naples, moved to London to study under Francesco Bartolozzi in 1781. Specialised in colour-prints for furniture upholstery. Trade card in Banks Collection (Banks 59.25) advertises "Mno. Bovi, Engraver & Print Seller. Prints Framed & Glazed. 207, Piccadilly near St. James's Church." In 1786 Bovi resided at 2 Leicester Square and then later at 81 Great Titchfield Street (1790), 207 Piccadilly (1792-5, 1798-1799) and 2 Piccadilly (1801-1803 ). His catalogue refers to 'prints on satin, velvet, muslin and calico to be used to upholster furniture; transparencies on calico, paper, etc.' (BM).
