Miscellaneous Views: Ham Fields, Richmond, showing the Ham River Grit Company's lock and flooded pits, in April, 1929.
Sand and gravel ballast was extracted here from 1904, and the company built a lock and dock for the barges carrying the material away. After the Second World War, the pits were filled in with rubble from bombed houses, and some of the area now survives as a nature reserve.
