Trousers
These trousers are a part of a three-piece man's Utility suit made of pinstriped black worsted, which was bought at the end of the Second World War from M Hyam Wholesale Clothing Company Limited, based in Emerson Street, Southwark. The suit is made according to the Civilian Clothing (Restriction) Orders, and the trousers have a maximum of three pockets, no belt and no turn-ups, and the legs are the maximum width for men's trousers of 19 inches (48 centimetres) at the bottom. The trousers have 6 black buttons around the waist in order to fasten to braces. There are 5 buttons on the fly. The retail price would have been 3 8s 3d (3 pounds, 8 shillings and threepence), and 26 coupons would have to be surrendered to purchase the whole suit.
