Museum of London Archaeology Service — Roman; AD 200-300
Flask
This is one of four extremely fine glass vessels which were found in a unique cremation burial, alongside seven ceramic vessels, a coin and burnt human bones in a wooden container. It is highly unusual to find this many glass vessels in a burial, especially of this quality. These glass vessels are also rare finds for this region of the Roman Empire. This bath flask may have come from Egypt. It has unusual facet-cut decoration. It may have belonged to a wealthy Roman Londoner who could afford to buy goods imported from thousands of miles away.
