Printed Ephemera — 1908-1914
The Fountain, Victoria Park
Hand tinted postcard showing the drinking fountain at Victoria Park, Hackney. Victoria Park served as a 'lung' for the overcrowded east end. By 1880 the Metropolitan Drinking Fountain and Cattle Trough Association had erected 800 water fountains and troughs in London. Up to 300,000 Londoners and 1,800 horses used the troughs daily during the summer. The fountain in Victoria Park was paid for by Baroness Burdett Coutts.
