Printed Ephemera — 1935-1950
At the Centre of Things The London Telegraphist
This recruitment leaflet was produced by the General Post Office to encourage women between the ages of 15 and 35 to become telegraphists. Telegraphy was a predominantly female profession. The leaflet gives the conditions of service including rates of pay, working hours, annual leave and other benefits for employees in the London Telecommunications Region. The basic salary scale for the lowest grade was £345-£385 and entry level annual leave entitlement was 12 days. Women were paid less than their male counterparts and were not generally offered pensions.
