The inscription translates as:
'In honour of the divine imperial house, Marcus Martiannius Pulcher, deputy (?) imperial propraetorian legate of the two emperors ordered the temple of Isis..... which had fallen down through old age, to be restored'.
The name of this particular governor was unknown until this inscription was found. The altar was found with other sculptured stones in the late-3rd century riverside wall.
