Scabbard chape & scabbard
Plain copper-alloy chape made from a piece of rolled sheet copper alloy. The end is shaped to a point and the upper edge on the front is decoratively cut. The fragmentary remains of part of a leather scabbard was found inside the chape. The scabbard has incised linear decoration. There are possible traces of the wood lining inside the scabbard. A chape is metal ferrule or re-inforcement attached to the end of a scabbard or sheath to protect the point area of the bladed weapon that was contained within.
