Saxon & Medieval — Late Medieval; late 14th-15th century
Measure
These small Cheam whiteware vessels are usually termed 'measures' though their purpose is not certain. They are similar to small baluster jugs in profile but have no pouring lip or handle. They are usually glazed internally and around the rim, suggesting that they might have been used to hold liquids. This one has a capacity of 220 ml and was found in London Wall in the early 20th century.
