The Plough and Bird
John Skinner, an apothecary, issued this trade token, worth a half penny, for his business in Whitechapel, Middlesex.
Boyne & Williamson (1889) reference London number 3423; Obv inscription: IOHN.SKINNER.APOTHECARY (around field, in Roman capitals) Device = HIS / HALF / PENY (in three lines of Roman capitals, in field); Rev inscription: IN.WHITCHAPPELL.1668 (around field, in Roman capitals) Device = A plough and three birds (in field).
Whitechapel lay in Stepney, Middlesex; it is now part of the London Borough of Tower Hamlets.
