The Black Boy
Ellis Crisp issued this trade token, worth a half penny, for his business at the Black Boy tavern, in the Strand, Middlesex.
Boyne & Williamson (1889) reference London number 2966; Obv inscription: ELLES.CRISPE.AT.YE.BLACK (around field, in Roman capitals) Device = A naked boy with bow and arrow (in field); Rev inscription: BOY.IN.THE.STRAND.1669 (around field, in Roman capitals) Device = HIS / HALFE / PENNY (in three lines of Roman capitals, in field).
