The Plough
William Minshew issued this trade token, worth a farthing, for his business in Rosemary Lane. The sign on the reverse is of a Still (a piece of equipment used in the production of alcoholic spirits).
Boyne & Williamson (1889) reference London number 2411; Obv inscription: WILL.MINSHEW.IN (around field, in Roman capitals) Device = A plough (in field); Rev inscription: ROSEMARY.LANE.59 (around field, in Roman capitals) Device = A still over a fire (in field).

The road from which this trade token was issued is unclear; it may be Rosemary Lane, which was situated in the ward of Farringdon Without, in the City of London, but the location of which is now lost, or, it may refer to Rosemary Lane (now Royal Mint Street), in Portsoken Ward, in the City of London, the area having historically been part of Stepney, Middlesex.
