The Plough
William Holmes issued this trade token, worth a farthing, for his business at the sign of the Plough in Soper Lane (Queen Street).
Boyne & Williamson (1889) reference London number 2318; Obv inscription: WILLIAM.HOLMS.AT.THE (around field, in Roman capitals) Device = A plough (in field); Rev inscription: PLOW.IN.SOPER.LANE (around field, in Roman capitals) Device = W.A.H. (triad of initials in Roman capitals, in field).
The issuer is known to have been, William Holmes of St Pancras Soper Lane; md. Anne harrison 1626; she d. 1651, see Percival Boyd, [Inhabitants of London]. Society of Genealogists, MS. 7511.
