The Plough
John Vere, a mealman (someone who deals in meal crops, such as oats), issued this trade token, worth a half penny, for his business in Old Bailey, ward of Farringdon Without, City of London.
Boyne & Williamson (1889) reference London number 2121A; Obv inscription: IOHN.VERE.MEALMAN (around field, in Roman capitals) Device = A plough and HIS / HALFE / PENNY (in three line of Roman capitals with sign between, in field); Rev inscription: IN.YE.OLD.BAYLEY.1664 (around field, in Roman capitals) Device = I.M.V. (triad of initials in Roman capitals, in field).
