The Plough
John Vere issued this trade token, worth a farthing, for his business at the sign of the Plough, in Old Bailey, ward of Farringdon Without, City of London.
Boyne & Williamson (1889) reference London number 2120; Obv inscription: IOHN.VERE.AT.THE (around field, in Roman capitals) Device = A plough (in field); Rev inscription: PLOW.IN.THE.OLD.BAYLY (around field, in Roman capitals) Device = I.B.V. (triad of initials in Roman capitals, in field).
The issuer is known to have been a mealman, he issued a half penny token for his business with his profession on it, see, NN17994, in the museum collection.
