The Pot
Edward Lewis issued this trade token, worth a farthing, for his business in Bread Street, Bread Street Ward, City of London.
Boyne & Williamson (1889) reference London number 401; Obv inscription: EDWARD.LEWIS (around field, in Roman capitals) Device = A porridge pot (in field); Rev inscription: IN.BRED.STRETE.1659 (around field, in Roman capitals) Device = E.R.B. (triad of initials in Roman capitals, in field).
The porridge pot symbol is a representation of part of the Arms of the Armourers' and Braziers' Company. See also J. H.
