The King's Head
Thomas Blumsum, a baker, issued this trade token, worth a half penny, for his business at the Kings Head tavern in Black Horse Alley (now Ludgate Circus and St Bride Street).
Boyne & Williamson (1889) reference London number 354; Obv inscription: THO.BLVMSVM.AT.YE.KINGES (around field, in Roman capitals) Device = HIS / HALFE / PENY (in three lines of Roman capitals, in field); Rev inscription: HEAD.IN.BLACKE.HORSE.ALLY (around field, in Roman capitals) Device = Bust of a crowned king (in field).
