Chisel, cold chisel
Iron cold chisel with a square head. Excavated from the 18th century level at Custom House Quay. Cold chisels usually have an octagonal shaft with one end tapered and ground on both sides to a chisel edge. Used by tradesmen for cutting metal. Shipwrights also used the chisel for cutting socket holes in the head of a capstan.
