Decorative arts — 1905
Medal, commemorative medal
This medal was struck by the Musicians' Company to commemorate the performance of Thomas Campion's masque 'The Golden Tree' at the Guildhall School of Music on the 29 June 1905. Campion's masque was first performed in 1613 and was revived by Master C.T.D. Crews at the School. The medal features the arms of the Musicians' Company and a lyre forming the base of the ribbon loop.
The medal was presented to the Guildhall Museum in 1917 by Sir Homewood Crawford, who was the City of London Solicitor from 1885 to 1924. Crawford held a number of elected positions including the office of Master in both the Musicians' and Fan Makers' Companies and President of the trade union the National Association of Local Government Officers.
