Prehistoric — Late Iron Age; 100 BCE - 50 CE
Spearhead
An Iron Age incomplete iron spear head with part of the ash shaft still present within the socket. The spear head has an elongated leaf-shaped blade which tapers to a point with a pronounced midrib. The majority of the edges are missing but there are sections of the iron where the original surface has survived. A small section of the socket is missing. The surviving socket is hollow and circular and does not have overlapping edges which are an indication of Saxon date. There is a river hole with rivet still in situ to secure the wooden shaft within the socket.
