Wood-engraved trade card advertising the business of the nightman Richard Harper, located at Clerkenwell Green, near Turnmill Street end. The illustration shows nightmen loading a horse drawn cart with night soil. Below is printed information about the business run by Harper and the services offered including the availability of carriages able to hold up to to tons of night soil, the cleaning of funnels and trunks and the emptying of cess pools. On the reverse is a handwritten receipt dated September 8th 1759 referring to the payment of £1 16 shillings for the emptying of 8 tons of night soil. This is one of three trade cards for Richard harper in the Museum's collections that reveal that Harper moved his business from Clerkenwell Green to Goswell Street in about 1760.
